How to get from Civitavecchia port to Rome, all the possible solutions

You can take the highway A12 Civitavecchia Roma from the exit Civitavecchia Sud. It is located about 6 km from the port outside the city – direction Santa Marinella. You will find the fork in the road on the left. By choosing the highway, the travel time to get to Rome is about 50 minutes, taking into account the speed limit in Italy of 130 km per hour.

From Civitavecchia to Rome along the Aurelia

The other solution for those who travel by car from Civitavecchia is to take the state highway ss 1 Aurelia, a very famous consular road that connects Ventimiglia to Rome. The time taken to reach Rome from Civitavecchia along the Aurelia is about 80 minutes (depending on the traffic which can be very intense, especially on public holidays).

For long stretches the Aurelia street coasts the sea and along the way you can admire many panoramic views.

From Civitavecchia to Rome by Train

After landing in the Port of Civitavecchia, you have to reach the dock and take the internal free shuttle  that will take you to the south entrance (Fortezza or Molo del Bicchiere stop). After leaving the port you will have to walk for about 700 meters and reach the station along Viale della Repubblica, the main street of the city.

The timetable of the train from Civitavecchia to Rome can be found on the website of the Italian State Railways (Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane). Usually, on weekends a train departs from platform 5 every 30 minutes. The time taken to reach Rome by train depends on the train type and the station you have to reach. If you take a regional train from Civitavecchia and you have to reach Roma Termini, you will be at your destination in an hour and twenty minutes.

The cost of the regional train ticket is 5 euros. If you have decided to take an intercity, the cost is between 11 and 16 euros, with a journey time of about an hour and ten minutes.

Another solution to reach Rome from the port of Civitavecchia is to take the bus of the Regional COTRAL Line. The nearest stop from the port is located at Bar Aurelia, near the railway station, at a distance of about 600 m. Before going to the stop you need to buy a ticket, you can do so by going to the same Bar Aurelia or in the main newsstands or cigarette shops of the city.
