Welcome to the Bel Paese: most beautiful cities in Italy
Most beautiful cities in Italy: here the list with the best five we have selected to you. Discover Rome, Florence, Venice, Naples and much more!
Rome
The first of the most beautiful cities in Italy is of course its capital, Rome, the eternal city, an open air museum, a city full of history, with its churches, squares, fountains, archeological ruins and majestic architectural works such as the Coliseum – the oval amphitheater in which once the gladiators fought – and St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, built by Bramante, Raphael and Michelangelo from where each Sunday the Pope talks to millions of pilgrims.
Venice
One of most beautiful cities in Italy and the most visited by tourists is Venice. The most romantic city in the world is built upon a lagoon so you can visit it taking waterbuses or sitting on the typical gondolas, admiring the water canals with famous bridges such as the Rialto or the Sospiri Bridge or stop and sit in the famous Piazza San Marco drinking a Spritz and look the people passing by. Venice is also famous for its Carnival with sumptuous costumes and refined and precious face masks.
Florence
Among the most beautiful cities in Italy there is of course Florence, the cradle of Renaissance where you can find a lot of paintings, sculptures and architectonical works made by the most famous Italian artists, such as Brunelleschi, Botticelli, Giotto, Michelangelo. The whole city is full of historic and artistic sites, among which the Duomo, Santa Croce, the Uffizi Gallery, Palazzo Pitti, Piazza della Signoria and Ponte Vecchio. The wonderful Boboli Gardens are a must-see, too.
Naples
When you come to the Bel Paese, you have to visit one of the most folkloristic cities in Italy: Naples. Besides amazing places such as the Gulf, Piazza del Plebiscito, the Maschio Angioino and the Castel dell’Ovo, what strikes most is the peculiarity of its inhabitants and their customs and tradition, like that of waiting for the miracle of Saint Janarius, the city’s patron saint, whose dried blood turns to liquid each year inside the Cathedral: if this would not happen, they believe that the Mount Vesuvius could erupt. Furthermore, in Naples you can taste the true and original Italian pizza and drink the best Italian coffee.
Milan
Last but not least, one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, is Milan, the business capital of Italy which hosts several economic and cultural events amd many important fairs. It is also the fashion and design capital, with the famous Via Montenapoleone, the street full of designer stores. Among its historic buildings, the gothic Milan Cathedral and the Sforza Castle are a must-see.
